Preventive
& Children Dentistry

Prevention is the best cure.

Individual crowns are used to restore the function and aesthetic of individual teeth, whilst bridges can be used in conjunction with crowns to replace multiple missing teeth.

Your daily oral hygiene routine should include:

  • Brushing your teeth morning and night. This should be done in a circular motion with moderate pressure and should come in contact with the gum line at a 45-degree angle. To remove bacteria responsible for unpleasant breath, brush your tongue or use a tongue scraper.
  • Flossing your teeth daily. Use an adequate amount of floss for each tooth and gently floss the area multiple times to remove debris. Bleeding should not occur during gentle flossing.

Your oral hygiene routine at our dental center should include:

  • Regular checkups, and additional appointments if you experience any pain, discomfort or bleeding.
  • A professional clean every six months.

By employing a regimented at home oral hygiene routine and visiting our dental center for checkups and regular cleans, you can actively discourage the development of dental diseases such as periodontitis.

Sealants

Dental sealants protect teeth from tooth decay by filling the fissures and grooves that are hard to clean during brushing and flossing.

Sealants are a thin plastic coating which is painted on the chewing surfaces of the teeth (usually the molars) to prevent tooth decay. The material bonds to the depressions and grooves of the teeth forming a shield of enamel on each tooth. Anyone can benefit from this treatment, and it is particularly successful for preventing tooth decay in children and teenagers.

The Procedure

This is a quick and painless treatment and is completed in a single dental appointment. The process involves:

  • Teeth are thoroughly cleaned and dried.
  • An acidic solution is applied to the chewing surfaces of the teeth to roughen teeth in preparation for bonding.
  • Sealant is then painted onto the tooth enamel, where it bonds directly to the tooth and hardens.
  • A curing light is used to help the sealant harden.

If maintained properly, sealants can protect teeth from decay for up to 10 years. Regular visits to the dentists are required to check for chipping or wearing.

Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride has been shown to strengthen the enamel on your teeth and reduce the risk of tooth decay. We recommend drinking fluoridated water, and the use of age appropriate fluoridated toothpastes.

We understand that some people have concerns regarding the safety of fluoride, or have allergies to this treatment, and so we can provide fluoride free treatment alternatives on request.
